Polar Plunge FAQs
Q. Will there be safety personnel at the event?
Yes, safety is our first priority! The Essex Fire Department has agreed to provide ambulance services and rescue personnel in cold water gear in case of emergency.
Q. Is Polar Plunging safe?
For children and adults in good physical condition, participating in a Polar Plunge event is generally thought to be quite safe. However, we encourage every participant to read our waiver closely and to consult their primary care physician if there is any question about safely participating.
Q. Should I wear footwear when I plunge?
Yes, we highly recommend wearing water shoes while plunging, as Front Beach at Conomo Point is quite rocky.
Q. Where should I park?
Parking is available on a first-come, first-serve basis in the small lot across from Front Beach and at Clammer’s Beach (108 Conomo Point Rd), and along side streets in the area of Conomo Point. There will be a temporary waiver of parking restrictions from 7 am - 12 pm on the day of the plunge, so you do NOT need to have a valid resident parking sticker. Arrive early if possible—the later you arrive, likely the longer your walk will be from your car to the beach.
Q. What should I wear, and what should I bring with me?
We recommend you wear water shoes, a bathing suit, and clothes over your suit that you can get into and out of quickly. We also recommend that you bring a towel, warm outerwear, a hat, and gloves.
Q. Can I register day-of at the event?
Yes! We will accept Paypal, Venmo, cash or checks and will have extra waivers on hand for anyone who needs one.
Q. Will there be t-shirts at the event?
Possibly! TBD
Q. Are there bathrooms at Conomo Point?
Unfortunately, there are no bathrooms available at Conomo for the 2023 event. Please plan accordingly.
